The female side is often sewn in. This makes replacement very difficult. Many packs are discarded for this reason

Slide the old one off the strap and install the new male side. If the belt slips through the new male side too easily, remove it and flip it over before reinstalling it.

Cut the original plastic buckle off the belt, take the stainless steel rod out of the new buckle, thread it through the belt and tighten
